MANKATO, Minn. (KMSP) - Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer confirmed Wednesday his father has passed away. He was 84.
Coach Zimmer left training camp in Mankato to be with his father, Bill, in Florida last week. He had been battling health issues in recent years.
Bill Zimmer is a hall of fame football coach, and after Fox 9 Sports director Jim Rich had a chance to sit down with Bill and his wife Ann, it became abundantly clear that coaching is in their son's blood.
“I’d go downstairs and watch the tapes, and he’d come down and watch the tapes with me. I’d point out things to him on the tapes and I think that was probably the beginning of the association with what coaches do,” Bill Zimmer told Rich last summer.
