U of Minn. human research audit expected soon

One week after a critical report came out about the University of Minnesota's human research program, the Faculty Senate met to discuss the findings. An independent panel of national experts found the school needs to do a better job of protecting vulnerable people who participate in research studies at the local university.

The Faculty Senate asked for the report after the Fox 9 Investigators raised troubling questions about the death of Dan Markingson. In 2004, he committed suicide while enrolled in a Department of Psychiatry drug study.

Several faculty members made comments and asked questions of school administrators and two of the national panel experts. They participated via video conference.

The Legislative Auditor is expected to release a report about the University's human research practices in a couple weeks.
