Suspect sought in armed carjacking in North Branch, Minn.
NORTH BRANCH, Minn. (KMSP) - UPDATE (12:00 p.m.) -- North Branch Police confirm the suspect has been located and the child has been found safe. There was an officer-involved shooting.
Police in North Branch, Minnesota are looking for a suspect who stole a car at gunpoint Monday morning and may have a small child with him.
The carjacking was reported shortly before 8 a.m. near the 37900 block of Greenway Avenue. The stolen vehicle is a black 2014 Chevy Impala with a Minnesota license plate 832PUV and a trailer hitch.
Authorities believe the suspect may be looking for neighborhoods in the area to ditch the stolen vehicle and steal a new one. He may have a small child with him.
The suspect is described as a man between 40 and 55 years old with a “scruffy” beard and “shaggy” hair possibly in a ponytail. He was wearing a green shirt and displayed a handgun.
The suspect reportedly tried to ditch the stolen vehicle and steal a new one, but was unsuccessful.
The Chisago County sheriff's office said he then drove through a backyard, over a fence, and onto Interstate 35.
Anyone who sees a vehicle or suspect matching the description is asked to call 911. The suspect is armed and should not be approached.
