Suspect in custody after woman, child found dead in New Richmond home

A suspect is in custody in connection with the 30-year-old woman and 10-year-old child found dead inside a New Richmond, Wisconsin home Wednesday afternoon.

The New Richmond Fire Department discovered the bodies of Courtney Bradford and her daughter Jasmine at 1400 Hallewood Boulevard while responding to a call about smoke and running water at the house around 12:30 p.m. Upon arrival, crews found Courtney upstairs and Jasmine in the basement.

"It's a just a tragic thing," neighbor Kiara Johnson said. "You know, tough anywhere, but being in a small town you wouldn't think much would happen."

Police tracked 37-year-old Cristian Daniel "Danny" Nunez-Ortega to El Paso, Texas, where he was arrested Thursday morning, according to the New Richmond Police Department.  Police believe Nunez-Ortega drove Courtney's car to Des Moines, Iowa, abandoned it and flew to Texas.

New Richmond Police Chief Mark Samelstad said he believes Nunez-Ortega is Bradford's ex-boyfriend. He remains in custody in Texas awaiting extradition. No charges have yet been filed. 

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office ruled both deaths a homicide. Preliminary autopsy reports found Bradford and her daughter had multiple stab wounds. 10-year-old also had injuries consistent with sexual assault., according to a statement.
