2 separate fires in St. Louis County leave 1 man dead, 4 others wounded
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Minn. (FOX 9) - St. Louis County authorities are investigating a fire they say left a man dead on Thursday. Another fire on Friday morning left a total of four people wounded, two of whom were seriously injured.
Fatal Leiding Township house fire
What they're saying:
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that its deputies and multiple area fire departments responded to a reported house fire in the 3500 block of Highway 119 in Leiding Township around 6:50 a.m. on Thursday.
The 911 caller said she couldn't find her husband and the house was on fire.
When firefighters arrived, they found the home was engulfed in flames. The news release also states the home was a total loss.
The woman who called 911, a 57-year-old from Orr, was able to escape.
Investigators say they found human remains at the scene of the fire around 4:30 p.m.
The remains are believed to be 57-year-old Matthew Bisbee of Orr, who was also the husband of the woman who escaped the fire, according to the sheriff's office.
4 injured in Biwabik house fire
Second St. Louis County fire:
Authorities say they responded to a home in the 4800 block of Vermillion Trail in Biwabik Township around 5 a.m. Friday.
That home and multiple other structures are reported to be total losses.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office said the home's occupants were sleeping when they were awakened by the sound of alarms and were able to escape.
Two of the occupants were reportedly treated for serious injures, while another two were treated for minor injuries.
The news release states that the fire "does not appear to be suspicious in nature" but the cause is still being investigated.

The sheriff's office added that residents are encouraged to "routinely check their fire alarms" at their homes.
