Police searching for suspect who attacked U of M employee with bottle

UPDATE: The University of Minnesota has rescinded a picture of the person it believed was the suspect, saying the man in question did not have any involvement with the case. A previous version of this story featured that image.

University of Minnesota police are searching for a suspect who reportedly assaulted a university employee with a bottle Monday night. 

Police were called to the Mayo Building on the East Bank  at approximately 11 p.m. on a report of an aggravated assault. 

The victim, a University of Minnesota staff member who works in facilities management, asked the suspect to leave the building and the suspect assaulted him with a bottle. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Police have a suspect in the case, but he is not in custody. The suspect is described as approximately 6’ to 6’1” tall with shoulder length dreadlocks. He was wearing a stocking cap, tan jacket and khaki pants. 

Anyone who sees the suspect should call 911, but should not approach him. Anyone with information on the assault is asked to call the U of M Police Department at 612-624-2677.
