Motorcycle passenger killed after driver strikes deer

A 43-year-old motorcycle passenger from Crookston, Minn. was killed on Saturday evening in Polk County when the driver struck a deer that ran out into the road, throwing both from the vehicle.

The Harley Davidson was headed west on County Road 57 and approaching County Road 13 when it struck a deer that ran in front of the vehicle just before 9 p.m. Corey L. Reitmeier, 44, of Crookston, Minn., was brought to a hospital in Grand Forks by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. His passenger, Wendy L. Reitmeier, was pronounced dead on-scene.

They were both not wearing helmets and no alcohol was detected on Reitmeier or the passenger. Minnesota State Patrol officials are investigating.
