Menomonie police urge ice safety after man falls through Lake Menomin

(KMSP) - Police in Menomonie, Wisconsin, are warning the public to use caution on ice after a man fell through early Saturday morning on Lake Menomin.
Authorities received the report around 7 a.m. and located items at the scene that indicated someone may have gone through the ice. Around 11:30 a.m., police announced they spoke with the person, and he is alive and cooperating with police.
Witnesses reported seeing a set a footprints leading to a hole in the ice about 100 yards from the shore with some ice fishing equipment near the hole.
Local fire departments deployed a rescue team in an effort to find the person, and a dive team used an underwater camera, but they couldn't find anyone trapped under ice.
Meanwhile, during the search, officers followed up on information from social media posts. They eventually made contact with the man who fell through. He said he fell around 6:45 a.m. and was able to get out by using "personal safety equipment."
