Memorials, condolences for St. Paul firefighter Shane Clifton
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) - Memorial services are being held today for St. Paul firefighter Shane Clifton, who died in the line of duty one week ago. Funeral services will be held at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in St. Paul at 10 a.m.
Clifton was a paramedic with the fire department at Station 14, but he was also a U.S. Navy veteran. He collapsed while at work and died after suffering a heart attack. His colleagues are grieving, having to lean on one another to get through and carry on.
“It has been up and down for us all week,” St. Paul Fire Chief Tim Butler said. “I mean you see somebody and you it just goes, and then you see somebody else and you buck up and you get through it.”
In addition to his service, Chief Butler points out that Shane Clifton had a terrific sense of humor and really brought a lot to the firehouse. He leaves behind two children, ages one and 8. Clifton will be given full military and fire service honors. He will be buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
