Man struck, killed by train in Coon Rapids
A 31-year-old Coon Rapids, Minn. man was struck and killed by a Burlington Northern train in Coon Rapids.
Officers with the Coon Rapids Police Department were called to the railroad tracks on Hanson Boulevard around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Officers checked the area and the man was found dead west of Hanson Boulevard.
"An investigation is ongoing into the cause of the accident," police said in a news release.
The area where the accident happened is in what's commonly called a "no whistle zone," where trains will refrain from blowing their horns out of respect to homeowners, but if the conductor spotted someone in the tracks, the rule is nullified.
This incident is currently being investigated by the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, the Coon Rapids Police Department and BNSF Railway.
