Man charged with murder in stabbing at Lake Street light rail station
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - A Minneapolis man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of a man at the Lake Street Transit Station Tuesday evening.
Frank Runningshield, Jr., 43, is charged with second degree murder for allegedly stabbing 26-year-old Daquan Thompson.
Surveillance video shows Runningshield, Thompson and other people talking near the entrance to the Blue Line light rail station at 2310 Lake Street E around 7:17 p.m. A witness told police the two men were arguing over the sale of marijuana.
The conversation appeared to end on good terms when Runningshield made a “quick stabbing motion" toward Thompson, who immediately bent over in apparent pain, according to the charges. Runningshield walked away and appeared to drop something on the ground.
Thompson eventually collapsed and died 45 minutes later at the Hennepin County Medical Center. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirmed he died of a single stab wound to the chest.
Officers later recovered a knife blade and handle near the stabbing scene.
Runningshield was arrested on Wednesday. He admitted to stabbing Thompson and told investigators they had been arguing for nearly three weeks because Thompson had been “messing with” his friends and family members.
