Human remains found in northern Minnesota likely man reported missing in May

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office believes human remains found in a remote, wooded area near Lake Kabetogama in northern Minnesota are that of a man who was reported missing in May.

At approximately, 1:17 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 11, a wildlife technician doing research in the area called the sheriff's office to report the discovery of the “severely decomposed” remains. Foul play is not suspected at this time. 

The remains have been sent to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine cause of death and confirm the identification.  These results are pending at this time.

The incident remains under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office. Voyageurs National Park Service and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Rescue Squad assisted with the investigation.
