CHICAGO, Minn. (KMSP) - The Gophers suited up for the unofficial kickoff to their season by trading their jerseys for jackets as they made the rounds at Big Ten Media Days in Chicago.
From podium to podium, smiles and optimism reigned supreme on a true merry-go-round before the rollercoaster of football season begins.
"It's more than I expected," Gopher player Carter Coughlin said. "It's bringing the season closer and making me think about it."
A year ago, PJ Fleck brought a new flavor to the conference, an acquired taste for some in college football, he would even admit.
Down to the wire endings in 2017 against teams like Maryland and Purdue turned a potential winning season into a 5-7 record without a bowl game appearance.
"I thought our team last year wanted to win, but we didn't refuse to lose," coach Fleck said.
With a year under their belt with Fleck, the Gophers are optimistic that this season can move them up a notch in the big picture of the Big Ten.
