Fatal crash in Fridley results in arrest of driver

FRIDLEY, Minn. (FOX 9) - A driver has been arrested following a deadly crash in Fridley on Monday, according to authorities.

What we know:
The crash happened just before 11 a.m. on the 6600 block of East River Road Northeast in Fridley.
According to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, a man driving an SUV was heading south on the road when he collided with the driver of a sedan traveling in the same direction.
The impact caused both vehicles to leave the roadway, with one striking some nearby trees. The SUV driver was taken to the hospital for his injuries, while the sedan driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
What we don't know:
Authorities have not shared the circumstances leading up to the crash. However, the sheriff’s office said the SUV driver has since been arrested, but not yet formally charged, according to a press release.
The crash remains under investigation by the Fridley Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
