Family in shock after murder-suicide in Menahga, Minn.

Authorities aren’t saying much about the circumstances surrounding the murder-suicide in Menahga, Minnesota.

But, the family is distraught, believing the man who pulled the trigger is an 82-year old husband who just lost the love of his life.

“We talked to him on Friday,” said Sherrill Johnson, the man’s cousin. “He seemed okay.”

Johnson could not believe that her cousin Carl Albin was apparently dead in a murder-suicide in his Menahga home - and that Albin was the one who allegedly pulled the trigger.

“We didn’t expect this,” she said. “He was a wonderful guy. He was very good-hearted, very loyal.”

The Johnsons - who live in Ham Lake - said Albin recently lost his life partner to cancer.

In fact, her funeral was held Monday afternoon.

That’s what the Johnsons were coming to town for when they got the news of the deadly shootings.

“We need to know exactly what happened,” said Dean Johnson.

Investigators were tight-lipped Monday and declined comment, only saying they received a 9-1-1 call just after midnight and arrived at the address to find two men dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Fox 9 sources report that the man killed in Carl’s house had some type of ongoing business or financial relationship with him.

“Well, I can’t believe that it has happened. I just cannot believe that Carl did that,” said Eino Maninga, Carl’s friend.

A joint investigation involving local police, the Wadena County sheriff’s office and the BCA is ongoing.
