Don Julio's robbed, owner shot in Forest Lake

Police are investigating after one person was shot during an armed robbery overnight at Don Julio Mexican Restaurant in Forest Lake, Minn. An undisclosed amount of money was taken around 11 p.m. late Tuesday night at 816 Lake Street South. 

The owner of the restaurant, Jorge Morales, was struck once in the abdomen and transported to Regions Hospital where he is listed in stable condition with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Morales was apparently closing down the restaurant when a suspect met him on the backside of the restaurant. There was some kind of struggle, the suspect fired and then made off with the cash.

Customers and fellow business owners nearby were shocked by the violent nature of the crime.

"It's upsetting to know that happened in our community. This is a pretty tight knit place. You feel safe. They are a good business. A good family," customer Heather Karstens said.

The suspect is still at large. Anyone with information is asked to call Forest Lake police.
