A dog in Culver Township is being credited with saving a girl from a house fire Wednesday night.

Around 7:30 p.m., the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office responded to a house fire that fully engulfed the home.

The only person inside escaped without injuries and several pets inside the home were able to make it out safely.

One dog died in the fire, however.

The person inside was a 16-year-old girl who said one of the family’s dogs alerted her to the fire.

The 5-bedroom home is a complete loss, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A fireplace appears to be the cause of the fire, but the State Fire Marshal is still investigating.
