Couple found dead of gunshot wounds at Winona, Minn. home

Two people are dead from an apparent murder-suicide at a home in Winona, Minnesota early Monday morning.

A man called 911 around 3:23 a.m. to say he and his girlfriend had been fighting over a handgun when it went off and struck the woman in the head, according to the Winona Police Department.

When police arrived at the home on the 200 block of Chatfield Street, they heard what they shot was a gunshot inside the home. After unsuccessfully attempting to make contact with the occupants, officers eventually entered the home and found a man and a woman dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Winona Police do not believe there is a danger to the public. The names of the victims have not been released.
