The Twin Cities music community held a concert Tuesday night, paying tribute to a fellow artist who was killed in a car crash in Arizona.

At Mortimer’s Bar in south Minneapolis, musicians honored the life of Trevor Engelbrektson.

On March 27, Engelbrektson was driving to a show in Santa Ana with the Liverpool-based band Her's. Shortly after 1 a.m., a Nissan pickup driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 collided head-on with a 15-passenger Ford van, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

“It’s just completely a loss, and anything we can do to help his family move forward is important,” friend Manny Chastor said.

In addition to managing tours, Engelbrektson was a popular bassist and sound engineer; he even ran his own record label.

“He was one of the sweetest people you could ever imagine. An incredible father, a loving husband and just a very dear friend,” Chastor said.

Now, nearly a week later, friends and loved ones gathered together to remember Engelbrektson and raise funds for his grieving family.

“Trevor would have been beside himself with glee,” Chastor said. “This is such a joy to have all of these folks to come out and support Trevor’s family.”
