Charges: Murder suspect stabs, shoots victim three days apart
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - With the help of surveillance footage from nearby businesses, one man has been charged for a Sept. 15 murder near Peavey Park in Minneapolis.
According to a criminal complaint, the victim was stabbed three days earlier by the same man just a few blocks away from the spot where he was killed.
Police arrested the man they believed was responsible for the stabbing, Tescil Mason-Kimmons, and monitored his phone calls from jail only to overhear a conversation between Mason-Kimmons and a co-conspirator outlining a plan to finish the job. Authorities believe the two men had been in a feud for over a year, and knew each other well.
Mason-Kimmons was released from jail Sept. 13, just two days before the shooting on the corner of Franklin Avenue East and Chicago Avenue South in Minneapolis.
Security camera footage of the incident showed police the getaway vehicle, a green Subaru Legacy, with a driver at least one witness was able to identify as Mason-Kimmons' roommate.
From there, authorities executed a search warrant on their residence and recovered an outfit similar to the one worn by the murderer and a .38 caliber handgun consistent with the bullet removed from the victim's head. Mason-Kimmons was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
If convicted, he faces up to 40 years in jail.
