8-year-old driver on 35W has history of fleeing foster home

An 8-year-old boy who drove on Interstate 35W with two other young children in the car has a history of fleeing his foster home. In fact, a little more than a week ago, St. Paul police asked for the public's help in finding a boy who went missing on a gold mountain bike.

He was quickly found, but police say that was same 8-year-old who was driving on the freeway. This history backs up the suspicions of the 911 caller that day – that the boy driving on the highway was running away.

"The little kid popped the trunk, took out a garbage bag full of clothes, and closed the trunk and moved to the front of the car," witness Eric Brown told Fox 9 . "I was like, wow."

Also in the car were a 5-year-old girl and her 3-year-old brother. The children are currently in the custody of Ramsey County child protective services. Investigators are releasing very few details right now was they continue to look into this.
