2 police officers shot at New Hope City Hall, gunman killed

Two police officers were shot after a swearing-in ceremony at New Hope City Hall on Monday night. After the pair was sworn in, the group left and two officers were shot, though it's unclear if the officers shot were the ones just sworn in. At a news conference, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office confirmed they are in good condition, and the suspect was shot and killed by another officer.

Shots were fired inside the City Hall building at 4401 Xylon Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. Monday. A City Council meeting was scheduled to go on at 7 p.m. While the shooting was not inside the City Council chambers, those in the meeting heard shots and were ordered to take shelter by a member familiar with a situation like the one that occurred Monday night.

In video recorded from the meeting, a council member says, "Somebody got shot," and council member John Elder, who happens to serve with the Minneapolis Police Department, says, "Everybody get down!" An individual can be seen with a gun drawn from behind the desk.

The identity of the suspect will soon be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office.
