New Minnesota beers to be drinking this fall

Seasons change and so do our choices in beer. Fall weather brings bolder and more interesting brews, from chocolate to pumpkin, flavor is the name of the game! Here are some of the top picks of October.

Dark

Surly’s Darkness is an imperial stout that is celebrated in limited release every year at Darkness Day, Oct. 15 at the Brooklyn Center Brewery. This year you’ll also find Damian Black ale, which is made from Darkness (a true child of Darkness) and Furious Black, a roasty toasty dark version of their popular IPA.

Pumpkin

Pumpkin beers have been brewed in this country since colonial times. Young local brewers like Brendan Greene from Birch’s on the Lake, know how to make is sing with flavor without making it feel like a PSL in a glass. Indeed Brewing makes it a bit more sophisticated with Yamma Jamma made with yams. Check out their big fall beer fest called Hullabaloo this weekend.

Hoppy

Fresh hopped beer is all the rage, and this is the season to enjoy it. Lift bridge’s HopDish is a very big, hop forward beer that is as crisp as a fall day. Bauhaus Brew Labs has just released their first Double IPA called Sky-Ten. It’s big and bold with 8.8%ABV but it has a nice dry finish.
