Mall of America’s Candy Cane Institute offers interactive virtual Santa experience
This would typically be the time of year malls would be bustling with holiday shoppers and kids dressed up for their pictures with Santa. But with COVID-19 restrictions in place, there won’t be any in-person visits with Old St. Nick. Still, malls are finding ways to keep the tradition alive, online. The Mall of America constructed the Candy Cane Institute, an interactive virtual experience that starts with a tour of the elves workshop and ends with a Santa visit. The cost for the 10-minute virtual holiday experience is $20 and it runs through December 24.

Drive-thru light shows have popped up all over the metro, but only one showcases the world?s most endearing and endangered animals. ?Nature Illuminated? is a new event at the Minnesota Zoo in Apple Valley. It features dazzling lights and larger-than-life animals custom-made by Landmark Creations in Burnsville. There are nearly 30 inflatable art pieces including a 30-foot red panda and a moose that towers over your car. ?Nature Illuminated? is open now and will run through January 17th. Tickets must be reserved ahead of time online

Northeast Minneapolis has a new distillery and cocktail room; one that promises to deliver whiskey flavors that don?t exist anywhere else. Brother Justus Whiskey Company tapped in to Minnesota?s natural resources to bring the flavors of the North to their products. Founder and Owner, Phil Steger said the plan was to open their spacious location the week before Thanksgiving, but that?s the same week Governor Walz announced the four-week closure of bars and restaurants. Until they can open to the public they?re offering delivery and curbside pickup. And this week Steger expects their whiskey to arrive in Minnesota Liquor stores.

St. Paul hosts Thanksgiving farmers’ market
The St. Paul Farmers’ Market is hosting a Thanksgiving market today. It’s a big deal because this is the one day each year that the market is open on a weekday. They’ve got all the fixings from turkey to sides and baked goods. The market will be open from 10am to 4pm at 290 5th St. E. Below are two recipes we shared on the Fox 9 Morning News. Both were made with ingredients from this special edition of the Farmers’ Market. Savory Squash Ingredients • 1 butternut squash, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes • 2 tablespoons olive oil • 1/8 teaspoon ground thyme • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper • salt to taste • 1/2 cup shredded Romano cheese Directions • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. • Mix butternut squash, olive oil, thyme, black pepper, and salt in a large bowl until evenly coated. Spread mixture in a large baking dish in an even layer; cover with aluminum foil. • Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes; remove foil and stir in half the Romano cheese. Sprinkle remaining cheese on top. Return to oven, uncovered, and continue to bake until tender and golden brown, about 20 minutes more. Sparkling Cranberry Kombucha Mocktail Ingredients: 1” slice of fresh ginger, thinly sliced, plus more for garnish 1 large sprig fresh rosemary, plus more for garnish, ½ cup 100% cranberry juice, 2 12-ounce bottles Live Original or Ginger Kombucha (may substitute kombucha of choice), Fresh cranberries, rosemary sprigs, and thinly sliced ginger for garnish Instructions: Fill 4 double old-fashioned glasses with ice and set aside. In a pitcher or quart-size Mason jar, muddle sliced ginger and rosemary together using the end of a wooden spoon or a muddler if you have one. Add cranberry juice and kombucha; stir gently to combine. Pour into ice-filled glasses (using a strainer, if necessary) and garnish with sprigs of rosemary, a slice of fresh ginger, and a few cranberries before serving.

Sever?s Fall Festival is now Sever?s Holiday Lights. There are 1.2 million lights on the half-mile drive that are timed to Christmas tunes on a special radio frequency. The show opens for the season on Thursday, November 26th. It will be open seven days a week. At the end of the drive-thru there is a concession stand with mini donuts and hot apple cider.

The Twin Cities most well-known independent record store, that sells plenty of vinyl, is Electric Fetus. They?ve seen a surge in interest in vinyl in the last year, but have also benefitted from getting their hands on signed merchandise from artists like Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi and Megan Thee Stallion. We visited the shop to see what they?re expecting to be the biggest sellers this holiday season.
