New art exhibit in the peak of winter transports guests to sunny Palm Springs
Artists draw inspiration from the people in the lives and places they?ve seen. And one warm, bright, colorful location is the motivation behind a new exhibition at Minneapolis? Gamut Gallery. The show is called ?Astroturf? but there?s only one sliver of actual AstroTurf in the gallery. Instead, it?s focused on Southern California in the 1950?s, a time when AstroTurf became a front yard staple. The show opens to the public on Friday, February 17th. It will be in place through March 18th. Gamut Gallery is located at 717 10th Street South in Minneapolis.

The popular winter event that got its start in the 1980s also features other activities, including yoga in the snow, a chili competition, and a Friday night party. Minnesota?s top robotics teams prepare to battle
The state?s top 48 high school and middle school robotics teams will face off in St. Paul this weekend for the FIRST Tech Challenge. The event begins Friday night at Roy Wilkins Auditorium and continues through Saturday. It is free and open to the public. At the start of the school year, the teams received this year?s challenge and designed a robot from scratch, even fabricating the parts on 3D printers. The top three teams will head to the World Championships in Houston. FOX 9 had a chance to check out the two teams from Maranatha Christian Academy in Booklyn Park who will compete this weekend.
