Timberwolves rookie Kris Dunn dazzles in Summer League debut
Kris Dunn scored 27 points and added 5 rebounds and 3 steals in an impressive NBA Summer League debut Friday night in Las Vegas. The Minnesota Timberwolves lost 88-82 to the Denver Nuggets, but Dunn -- the No. 5 overall pick in this year’s draft -- showed he can create his own shot and add some much-needed defense to the Wolves backcourt.
Third-year forward Adreian Payne had 17 points and 5 rebounds in 34 minutes. Tyus Jones had 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists in 33 minutes.
Denver played with its regular season starting backcourt of Emmanuel Mudiay and Gary Harris, who combined for 45 points. Rookie Juan Hernangomez looked NBA-ready with 13 points and 7 rebounds, and rookie Jamal Murray – another player on Minnesota’s draft radar – finished with 14 points and 6 rebounds.
