Mauer, Dozier give kids welcomed support for Twins Hope Week

It's Twins Hope Week, and each day, different players lead groups of teammates to partake various volunteer activities for kids and families. On Tuesday, Joe Mauer hosted "Picnic in the Park" for the kids at Gillette Children's Hospital, and All-Star hopeful Brian Dozier hosted a Miracle League Clinic at Target Field on Wednesday.

Twins Hope Week: Full schedule

The Miracle League provides children with mental or physical challenges the opportunity to play baseball, and Dozier and other Twins players put on a mini-clinic for the kids Wednesday morning.

Mauer and a few Twins teammates hosted Picnic in the Park Tuesday morning where kids and their families enjoyed some pizza in the press box, took a trip onto the field and hung out with some of their favorite players. Mauer just hoped the kids had a good day off from the time they have to spend in the hospital.

"I know what it's like to be in a hospital for a little while,” he said. “I know it's not a whole lot of fun so we just wanted to invite them to the park and get them out of the hospital and spend a little time with myself and the teammates and just have a good day."
