J Robinson wrestling camps moved from Minnesota to UW-River Falls
MINNEAPOLIS (KMSP) - The prestigious summer wrestling camps of Gophers coach J Robinson have been moved off the University of Minnesota campus and across the border to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Robinson remains on administrative leave amid an investigation into the sale and use of prescription drugs within the Gophers wrestling program.
In placing Robinson on leave, new Gophers athletics director Mark Coyle told the coach "you are not to be on campus." J Robinson Intensive Camps posted the following update on Facebook on Friday:
IMPORTANT UPDATE: J Robinson Camps will be moving all 2016 Minnesota camps to the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. This includes the 28-Day Intensive Camp, 5-Day Technique Camp, 5-Day Competition Camp, and 10-Day Combo Camp. The new location will not impact anything with respect to the camp daily schedule, training regimen, and our staunch commitment to excellence. All attendees flying to camp will still be picked up at the Minneapolis-St.Paul Airport.
According to University of Minnesota spokesperson Evan Lapiska, the university reached out to camp organizers and told them they were welcome to still have the camp on the U of M campus, but that “he (Robinson) was not permitted to be on campus.” Camp organizers “elected to move the camp to a different location.”
Lapiska did not have any estimate on lost revenue from the camps.
