Young Minnesota girl fighting cancer meets her idol Rachel Platten
A young Minnesota girl fighting cancer had the opportunity to meet and sing with her idol Rachel Platten at Basilica Block Party in Minneapolis on Saturday night.
7-year-old Alexa Kirkwood, of Oakdale, Minn., was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer in February of 2015. In May, she recorded a video of herself singing Platten's inspiring “Fight Song," which has become an anthem for kids fighting cancer.
On Saturday, Alexa was able to meet the star and hang out with Platten in her dressing room, where they sang the song together. Platten took to Facebook the next day to express her gratitude of meeting the young girl.
“Truly the reason I make music,” Platten wrote. “Thank you for inspiring me in return and reminding me what truly matters in this life - the love we spread! Morgan, Alexa, Sara and all the other little fighters I got to meet this week - I love you guys keep fighting!”
