Wisconsin city to fine parents of bullies hundreds of dollars
(FOX NEWS) - In an effort to curb bullying at schools, the city council in Shawano, Wisconsin, passed a new ordinance that will result in hefty fines for parents whose children repeatedly bully classmates.
Under the ordinance, parents will be notified when their child is involved in a bullying incident, and they will be given 90 days to correct the behavior.
If it doesn’t change, the parents will be fined up to $366. If the child is involved in a second bullying incident in the same year, the parents will face a $681 fine.
The ordinance prohibits bullying or harassment of any kind, including cyber-bullying, and applies to anyone under the age of 18.
