Suspected drunk driver runs red light, kills motorist at Fridley intersection

One person was killed when a suspected drunk driver ran a red light and struck another car in Fridley, Minnesota Monday night. 

According to Fridley Police, the car was headed northbound on East River Road around 6:40 p.m. when it ran a red light at the 42nd Avenue intersection and struck another car turning left. The driver of the second vehicle suffered serious injuries and later died. 

Officers at the scene believed alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The driver who ran the red light was arrested for driving under the influence and criminal vehicular homicide. He has not been charged. 

The crash remains under investigation.
