Scaffolding falls from new Vikings stadium on windy Sunday

A piece of scaffolding from the Vikings stadium project tumbled to the ground and blocked 5th Street on a very windy Sunday afternoon.

Minneapolis police confirmed no one was injured and no cars were in the area at the time of the fall and crews had 5th Street blocked off Sunday afternoon, although the scaffolding served as a blockade on its own.

Ironically, reconfiguring work to make room for the giant stadium features a planned closure of 5th Street beginning this Monday. Fifth Street between 11th Avenue and Park Avenue will be closed, 6th Street will remain open. Drivers heading west on 5th Street will be directed to use 11th Avenue to Washington Avenue or 11th Avenue to 7th Street then Park Avenue. The closure will be in effect for most of the summer.
