RECALL: Britax car seat handles can break, injure infants

Britax Child Safety is recalling two versions of its infant car seat because the carry handle can crack and break.

The company is recalling 71,000 Britax B-Safe 35 and B-Safe 35 Elite after receiving 74 reports of handles developing fractures and cracks or breaking while in use. One infant received a bump on the head when the carrier fell to the ground.

The recall affects car seats were sold at Babies R Us, buybuyBABY, Target and several online retailers between November 2014 and January 2016.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says consumers should immediately stop carrying the car seat by the handle until they receive a free repair kit to fix the problem. To order a repair kit, consumers should go to
