Residents in southern Minnesota are checking for damage after reports of a tornado west of Mankato Sunday night.

The tornado reportedly touched down northwest of Lake Crystal around 10:30 p.m. near County Road 20 and Highway 68.

The Blue Earth County sheriff’s office says it knocked down trees and power lines, toppled a barn and also damaged farm fields. Deputies say the tornado appeared to be heading toward town, but lifted and disappeared just before reaching the cities. There have been no reports of injuries.

Investigators from the National Weather Service will be Blue Earth County today to confirm whether it was a tornado.
