Pedestrian fatally struck by car was Regions employee

A Regions Hospital spokesperson confirmed that the woman who was fatally hit by a van in a crosswalk in St. Paul was a Regions employee.

St. Paul Police spokesperson Steve Linders said the crash happened around 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Cayuga Street and N Arkwright Street. A man driving in a van going west on Arkwright and was turning onto south Cayuga when it struck a woman in the crosswalk. Linders said the woman had right of way. Emergency crews and bystanders performed CPR and lifesaving measures, but the woman succumbed to her injuries.

St. Paul police identified the victim as Channy Kek, 55, of Eagan and the driver as Said Ali Mohamed, 41, of St. Paul.

A spokesperson for Regions Hospital confirmed she was a Regions Hospital employee, releasing the following statement:

"This is a difficult time for all of us. The St. Paul Police Department is leading the investigation into this tragic accident, and grief counselors will be available for colleagues in the coming days. Our thoughts and prayers go out to our colleague’s family and loved ones."

Mohamed is cooperating with police. Officials do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor. Charges are possible. The crash is still under investigation.

This is the third fatal pedestrian crash in St. Paul this year.
