One dead in crash after teen driver runs stop sign in western Wisconsin

A 49-year-old man is dead after a teenager ran a stop sign in rural western Wisconsin Saturday afternoon.

The crash occurred at 3:40 p.m. Saturday on County Road Y at Crosstown Road in Burnett County near Grantsburg, Wisconsin, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol. 

The 49-year-old driver was identified as James Carlstrom, of Siren, Wisconsin. He was traveling northbound in a 2000 Ford Focus on County Road Y when his car was struck by another vehicle heading eastbound on Crosstown Road.

An investigation of the crash showed the eastbound driver failed to stop at the stop sign on Crosstown Road.

A 17-year-old female was driving the car with a 16-year-old passenger. Both teens were transported to the hospital.

No charges have been filed against the driver. The incident is still under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
