MN Children's Museum begins expansion, declares "Day of Play"

Tuesday, Oct. 7, the same day the Minnesota Children’s Museum broke ground on a $30 million expansion and renovation, is now officially, "Minnesota’s Day of Play.”

The museum is launching their #PlayMoreMN campaign on social media to encourage Minnesotans to engage in playful activities. Gov. Mark Dayton declared Tuesday the "Day of Play" as part of the movement is designed to raise awareness about the importance of play in making communities "happier, healthier and more innovative," according to a news release.

The $30 million project will go towards several new exhibits, re-invented galleries and new visitor amenities. The museum will remain open during the construction. The museum also recently added a pop-up museum at the Mall of America.
