Minneapolis man charged after victim found dead in car

Minneapolis police arrested and charged a man in connection with a murder at the 4500 block of Stevens Avenue South.

40-year-old Ernesto Fabian Anthony Rivera was arrested and charged with second degree murder after Michael Edward Rekow was found dead in his car early Saturday morning.

Around 2:52 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the 4500 block of Stevens Avenue South on reports of gunshots heard. One of the callers reported a car crashed into the freeway sound wall just east of Stevens Avenue South.

According to the criminal complaint, officers arrived to find a car that had crashed into the back of a sound wall of Interstate 35W. Inside the car, police found a man who suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Police spoke with a witness who she was dating Rekow and that they knew the suspect. She said she was in the car when the shooting occurred. The witness said they were approached by Rivera and another man and the men were discussing stolen property. A short time later, Rivera returned and began shooting at Rekow.

Based on the witness' description and nearby video, officers were able to identify Rivera and tracked him to a residence in St. Paul.
