MDH reports first child flu death of season

One child in Minneosta died from the flu last week, health officials announced Thursday.

This is the first child flu death reported in the state this season. Last year, five chilren died from the flu. 

The age of the patient and where they were from have not been released. 

Sixty-nine people have died from the flu this year, down from 435 deaths last year. So far, 2,261 people have been hospitalized. 

The flu has been downgraded from widespread to regional geographic spread in Minnesota.
