Marine killed in Chattanooga attack was a Wisconsin native

A gunman opened fire on a Marine-Navy reserve in Tennessee on Thursday, killing four Marines. The gunman was also killed in the shooting. 

One of the four Marines killed on the military base in Chattanooga on Thursday, has been identified as 27-year-old Sgt. Carson Holmquist.   

 Holmquist was from Grantsburg, WI. he enlisted with the Marines when he was a senior in high school. Carson played four years of football in high school. 

“When I learned he was going in, just seemed like that was a perfect fit, didn’t surprise me when he made the decision to enlist in Marines. The team atmosphere and the service to our country, it just seemed like it was a natural fit for him to be honest.” Holmquists football coach said. 

Chief Fred Fletcher, the chief of the military base attacked, called the officer killed heroes for their actions in a press conference on Thursday. The Chief went on to say that the officer’s actions helped prevent additional loss of life. 

The FBI is currently looking into the weapons that were used in the attack. They didn’t release any specifics on the weapons at this time.
