Lawmakers to hear testimony on Mille Lacs fishing restrictions
Buried in the millfoil at the Minnesota Capitol is a House hearing on the new fishing restrictions on Lake Mille Lacs. The witness list for Wednesday's hearing is a is who's who of people tied to the issue.
The Minnesota DNR is allowing anglers to harvest just one walleye each this upcoming season on Lake Mille Lacs. The DNR says the historically-strict regulations are needed to sustain a healthy walleye population in the lake.
The DNR head of fisheries will testify at Wednesday's hearing, along with a Mille Lacs County board commissioner and several resort owners. This is an informational hearing, meaning no bill is assigned to it, but the debate should be contentious.
