Hennepin Co. library card may be key to dismembered body in Fla.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (KMSP) - Police in Cape Coral, Fla. believe a Hennepin County library card could be the key to helping investigators determine whether a former Minneapolis resident is connected to the murder of his father, whose dismembered body was found inside a suitcase floating in a canal earlier this year.

According to Cape Coral police, James Marshall, a local realtor, went missing on Feb. 19. Three days later, investigators discovered his dismembered torso wrapped in a sheet and tossed in the woods near his home. On March 15, police found his legs inside a suitcase bobbing in a nearby canal.

Investigators told Fox 9 they have no suspects, but attention is turning to Marshall’s 33-year-old son, Matthew.

Records show Matthew lived in an apartment in Minneapolis until late 2015, when he reportedly moved to Florida to live with his dad.

The autopsy of James Marshall’s body showed an “experienced finesse and capability necessary to dismember a body.”

That’s where the Hennepin County library card comes into play. The Minneapolis Police Department recently executed a search of a his Hennepin County library account to see what kind of books, periodicals or reference materials he may have checked out that could relate to this type of grisly murder.

Matthew is currently behind bars in Lee County in Florida on fraud charges. Investigators say he had been using his dad’s credit card for personal purchases.

Detectives still maintain they have no official suspects in the death of Matthew’s father.
