Eagan robbery suspect worked for same firm as security guard who shot him

It was business as usual Thursday for the international nonprofit running Operation Christmas Child out of a large warehouse in Eagan, Minnesota.

But the organization told Fox 9 they have had to enhance their security measures in recent days, including the addition of Eagan Police Department officers, after a deadly and somewhat curious confrontation took place in the facility’s parking lot earlier this week.

On Monday morning, a contracted and armed security guard with the Mill City Protective Agency shot and killed Davon Wiley, 25, during what was believed to be an armed robbery attempt.

Friday morning, Eagan police identified the security guard as Young Matthew Vang. Police have said it appears he was acting in self-defense.

Wiley, who was reportedly wearing a mask when he was shot multiple times, has a public Facebook page that includes several photos of him in the U.S. Army.

The Army confirmed Wiley was currently in the U.S. Army Reserve with the 367th engineer battalion in St. Cloud. Fox 9 has also confirmed Wiley was an employee of Mill City Protective Agency.

It is not yet clear if Wiley knew the security guard who killed him or if he had ever been assigned to work at the warehouse.

An attorney representing Mill City Protective Agency would not elaborate on Wiley’s employment and said the firm was hired and “did what it had to do.”

Operation Christmas Child – coordinated by the nonprofit Samaritan’s Purse – packs shoeboxes full of toys and gifts for children in need across the globe.

Operation Christmas Child released the following statement in light of the shooting:

“In light of this week’s incident with a contracted security company, we have already enhanced our security measures. However, for the safety of our personnel and property, we do not discuss any details of our security operations."

The incident remains under investigation.
