Dunwoody College hosts autonomous snow plow competition in bitter cold

In the bitter cold outside of Dunwoody College of Technology, eight robotics teams faced off for a $3,000 dollar prize at the school’s 15th annual autonomous snowplow competition.

"This is about as cold as where it’s still comfortable," Dunwoody College of Technology Dean E.J. Daigle told FOX 9. "Every time it gets cold, everything is more difficult."

Hot chocolate and hard warmers were in high demand, and everyone at the event wore multiple layers of clothing.

Seeking refuge indoors

Because of the cold weather, much of the work at the outdoor competition took place indoors.

Competitors went inside of the school regularly, to warm up and make final adjustments.

"We have a nice setup where we can stay in our car while it’s running, and then we look outside the window," Austin Mills of Case Western Reserve University said.

"It is cold today, it’s pretty cold today… my hands are getting a little bit cold, but besides that it’s okay," Mills finished.
