Charges: Maple Grove track coach sexually assaulted teen athlete
MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (KMSP) - An assistant track coach in Maple Grove is being charged with sexually assaulting one of his female athletes after practice last March.
In August, the Maple Grove Police Department began investigating a report of a sexual assault that occurred at Maple Grove Senior High School on March 29.
The victim, a 13-year-old junior high student, told police she had stayed behind after track practice to talk to her throwing coach. As she left the stadium, Todd McIntyre, the assistant track coach at the time, walked up and began to fondle her.
The girl said 46-year-old McIntyre threatened to assault the victim’s friends if she told anyone about the sexual assault.
Maple Grove police also contacted other female athletes on the junior high track team. None of them witnessed the sexual assault, but several said they had experienced inappropriate touching or behavior from McIntyre that made them uncomfortable.
McIntyre is being charged with one count of criminal sexual contact.
