Brooklyn Park man charged in shooting, high-speed Anoka County chase
ANOKA, Minn. (KMSP) - Castle Rogers Ahlbeck, 24, of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota has been charged with first-degree and second-degree assault, fleeing police and illegal weapons possession in connection to a chaotic chain of events on Thursday.
The first incident happened at 12:22 p.m. on Thursday where Ahlbeck is accused of shooting a man outside of an East Bethel gas station after an apparent drug deal, and then Ahlbeck led police on a chase driving at speeds of 100 miles per hour or more. He eventually crashed into a squad car westbound on Highway 10 in Anoka.
Minnesota Department of Transportation cameras show Ahlbeck getting out of his car, jumping a nearby fence and running. An officer shot him.
Officers found a large amount of what appeared to be methamphetamine inside Ahlbeck's car, according to the criminal complaint. The substance was submitted for analysis.
Ahlbeck was convicted of second degree assault in 2013 and prohibits him from possessing a firearm.
Ahlbeck’s first court appearance was on Monday and his bail was set at $700,000. His next court date is set for Dec. 19.
The Coon Rapids police officer who shot Ahlbeck was identified as Officer Bryan Platz. He has been with the Coon Rapids Police Department for 15 years. He has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
