Boyfriend allegedly choked, killed girlfriend in Brooklyn Park, Minn.

A mother of three was killed in her Brooklyn Park home around 3 a.m. on Thursday. And police say her live-in boyfriend is to blame.

This was an all-too-familiar scenario where the family noticed bruising and confronted 36-year-old Krista Ambers, but she would lie -- too afraid of her abuser to come forward.  Toby Nicholas Clark, 37, has a history of domestic abuse charges and an order for protection filed against him.

Police were called to the home near 84th Court and Douglas Drive on a report of an unconscious person. By the time they arrived to the home, Ambers didn’t have a pulse and had injuries around her neck and arms. The medical examiner said the cause of her death was strangulation.

Clarke was arrested by police and told them the two were having rough sex, and admitted to choking her.  But the victim's son, Deanthony Ambers, said Clarke is only saying that to make it look like a mistake.

“I want everyone to know that that's a lie,” Deanthony Ambers said.  "That man took my mom's life for no reason and it was not an accident. He purposely did that to her."

Deanthony said his mother was a victim of domestic abuse and believes she tried to call police, but Clarke took the phone away before she could get any help.
