Dozens of Chihuahuas are recovering after they were rescued from overcrowded and unsanitary conditions in northern Minnesota Wednesday morning.

Forty-one Chihuahua mixes, including many unweaned puppies, were removed from a single-family home in Carlton County by the Animal Humane Society's Critical Response Team.

The Golden Valley-based animal rescue says the dogs will receive a full medical evaluation, critical vaccinations and treatments, behavioral care and "the love they desperately deserve."

The Chihuahuas will be available for adoption over the next few weeks as they continue to recover. More information can be found on the Animal Humane Society's website
