2nd man arrested in south Minneapolis double homicide

Minneapolis police have arrested a second man in connection with a double homicide in south Minneapolis on Oct. 9 that left a 20-year-old man and a seven-month-old baby.

On Tuesday, Minneapolis police arrested Rashad Austin, 26. He was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on pending murder charges.

Jquan Mcinnis, 17, has also been charged in the shooting. He is charged as an adult with two counts of premeditate murder and two counts of murder by drive-by shooting.

The shooting took place on Sunday, Oct. 9 around 1 p.m. near the intersection of 26th Street and 11th Avenue S. around 1 p.m. 20-year-old Gustav Christianson and seven-month-old Jayden Redden were sitting in the backseat of a car with then were shot. 

According to the criminal complaint, Mcinnis fired shots into the backseat, moving to the back of the car and shooting through the back window. He told police he did not know Redden was in the car at the time.

Christianson was not related to Redden. Police say he was friends with the boy’s mother.
