WINTER WEATHER ALERT: Spring storm marches into Minnesota, Wisconsin
(KMSP) - A powerful spring storm will track northeast out of the plains and across Minnesota and Wisconsin Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening.
Where + when
In advance of the storm, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the Twin Cities Metro southwest to the Minnesota River Valley, with areas in southern Minnesota along I-90 and east along 1-94 into central Wisconsin in a Winter Storm Warning
There will be a very sharp cutoff in snow totals from north to south across the metro with areas north of downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul possibly out of the “snow zone." At this point, the metro looks to be in the 2- to 5-inch range, but this will change as the storm evolves overnight. Areas south of the metro in the Winter Storm Warning could possibly see in the 8- to 12-inch range.
This will be heavy and wet snow that will compact quickly and make driving dangerous across southeast Minnesota. If the current track and timing holds, then the Wednesday afternoon metro commute will be adversely affected.
